I stopped by the library to get a book I had ordered. While I was there I took a look at Audrey Niffenegger‘s The Three Incestuous Sisters. Once I opened it I couldn’t put it down. The book is based on drawings, art work, so it’s very appealing. She first worked on the pictures and then developed the text and the idea for the book. The book is meant to be left open to mean whatever the reader makes of it.
For me, the three sisters represent three parts of the same person, which together make her whole. The smart, intelligent, yet capable of meanness and malice, maybe too rational to feel, deceitful and devious. The beautiful, all loving, attracting love towards her, sensitive, passionate, emotional, kind and caring. And then the talented, insightful, spiritual, psychic, in a world beyond materialism, where dreams are real and anything is possible. These three aspects of a person are depicted in there different people, but together they form what each and every one of us can potentially be. We are one, yet we are three.
It’s a very simple yet thought provoking book. Check it out if you can, if not for anything else, the illustrations are worth the look.
